What is Aberystwyth Christian Union?

The Aberystwyth Christian Union is a mission team made up of university students that exists to reach other students with the Good News of Jesus Christ. With this in mind, the CU aims to:
1. Share the Good News with as many students as possible in a meaningful and     Biblically-faithful way.
2. Ensure that every CU member is confident and capable in sharing the Good News.

Who are we?
The students who make up the CU are drawn from many church backgrounds, and are united around the truth of the Good News and a desire to share this message with friends and fellow-students at the university.

What do we do?
The CU holds a variety of meetings every week, to which everyone - whether Christian, non-Christian, of another faith, or simply searching - are welcome. For more details of these see our ‘Meetings’ page. What is this Good News anyway?
The Bible teaches that everyone was created to know God, and enjoy friendship with Him. However, humanity has continually ignored and rejected God, and gone its own way – the Bible calls this ‘sin’. This sin, present in every human being, rightly deserves punishment. However, God, in His love and mercy, gave His son Jesus Christ to take this punishment when Jesus was crucified two thousand years ago. He died, and rose from the dead three days later, showing that the sin was dealt with.

Where does that leave me?
God has dealt with our sin on the cross, but we need to personally accept this forgiveness. He is like a loving Father offering us a wonderful and precious present. It is a free gift – we have done nothing to earn or deserve it. To accept this gift of God’s forgiveness we need to believe in what Jesus has done for us, stop rejecting Him, and confess Him Lord of our lives. God invites us to know Him, to know His forgiveness and to be part of His work on Earth. If we don’t accept Him, the Bible teaches that we will ultimately have to take the punishment we deserve on ourselves.

‘For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send His son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.’ John 3:16-17
